THE IDES OF MARCH...

The Ides of March is fast approaching, which signals that we are fully into that madness called college basketball and its NCAA Championship competition. Our media pundits are fully engaged in identifying who is in and who is out, and of course, who is on the “infamous bubble.” It’s one of the very few occupations [...]

GROWING THE YOUNG PERFORMER...

I have written several blogs over time about our largest group of athletes, ages 6-12. Given I do a lot of work with the products of that group of young people (college athletes) I keep seeing the same practices that don’t work. First, the number one reason kids play is to have fun. If this [...]

IT’S MONDAY IN FEBRUARY...

It is Monday in February, so the Super Bowl must be over and the football is ended. A sad day for our friends in the media. Not sad for too long given March Madness is just around the corner. That’s a conversation for another time. I wonder why the powers that be think they have [...]

POLITICS AND PERFORMANCE...

I don’t get it. We have one country and multitude of opinions as to what to do with it. We lead the world in finger-pointing. We act like we don’t need each other. We complain about the “way it is.” We are all responsible for everything that is going on. Yes, even the independents who [...]

IF RELATIONSHIP IS THE KEY …...

In the last few blogs I have posted the topic has been on what has relationships work. I proposed that the context for effective relationships is 100%-0%. If you missed that you can catch up by reading those blogs preceding this one. When a relationship isn’t working it is usually due to a faulty foundation [...]

WHAT IS 100%...

In a previous blog, I talked about two things: “relationship is the key to everything”, and the key to having a great relationship is a concept called 100%-0%.

In other words, I commit 100% of my energy to figuring out what I can do to have the relationship work. To do this, it might be useful to distinguish what 100% looks like.

Visiting The TEDx Conference Again...

The last couple of blog posts I’ve written have been about my opportunity to talk at the TEDx Youth Conference at Cal. State, Monterey Bay. The conference was sponsored by the Stevenson School. One of the great things about the TEDx conference was getting to listen to the wide variety of speakers that ranged from [...]

Talking At TEDx Youth@Monterey – T...

On November 19, 2011 I had the opportunity to speak at the TEDx Youth@Monterey conference. Attending the TED youth conference were more than 600 high school students and approximately 90 adult chaperones. The slate of “TED talk” speakers ranged from junior-high age to post-post graduates such as myself. The title of my talk was, “The [...]

HIGH PERFORMANCE COACHING...

Performers in all aspects of life need high levels of skill, talent and ability. As a coach with any performer, it is critical to distinguish between the three as growth will require different kinds of actions coming from a variety of conversations. In distinguishing the possibility for growth in skill, talent and ability, you will [...]

IS THE NEW YEAR “NEW”?...

When we look at 2012 are we actually creating a new year or are we operating from 2011 and hoping something good happens in 2012? Since our daily actions are given by the future we have created it might be useful to be clear about where we are headed. An important question to ask ourselves [...]
