THE TIGER IS LOOSE
Once again Tiger Woods is prowling the fairways at Augusta National.  For those rooting for his failure,  dont hold your breath.
It seems that everyone in the world has expressed their opinion about Tigers behavior so why should I be any different.  I have been a keen observer of the things people do and the mistakes we make. I certainly have made most of them.  So here goes, any way.
Tigers biggest mistake was that he forgot that he was  Tiger Woods, the persona that he had created over time.  He forgot that it was inevitable that he would get caught.  And, he did.
I am not condoning his behavior nor am I judging it.  Who am I (or you) to judge anyone?  That œhe who casts the first stone thing in the Bible is there on purpose.
I do not know if there has ever been an affair in history that received even close to the attention this one has.  Certainly not in the numbers of people reached given the technology available today.
It is very difficult for me to get that the punishment in this case fits the crime.  I am being extremely conservative when I say that 50% of the accusers have had their affairs and didnt get caught or got caught and only a handful of people cared.
I know he is one of the most recognizable men in the world.  Maybe the most.  He has paid the price for that already.
I think there is a deeper issue here.  It lies in the unsaid and it isnt just with Mr. Woods.  What has me think I hear œuppity n____r in the background.  The movie, œGuess Whos Coming to Dinner keeps coming to mind.  Of course it is okay to have the œperfect colored man come to dinner,  (colored was the term back in the day, you know) be in our home and know our children.  You can do it and œlook good in the process.
White America let Tiger Woods into their living rooms, playing the game that was always the domain of the white man, and he made them look bad.  He turned out to be human.
The black community is just as upset because they placed the man on a pedestal along side of Martin Luther King and Barack Obama  The great Mohamed Ali could never quite get there.
For 50 years I have been actively involved with racism.  Yes, the œR word.  It has been driven underground by œpolitical correctness.  It may not be cool todis the black folks but the thoughts and feelings are still there.
Change is very slow for human beings.  I wonder if we substitute technology for relationship.  Maybe we need to stop opting for what might be œcomfortable and pursue a PhD  in embracing each others differences.  Maybe we should ask ourselves, in a private moment, œhow do I really feel? about everyone else.  Progress begins with telling the truth.
Tiger Woods is just a man except on the golf course where he is œThe Man.  It is your choice as to how you honor either one.  Personally, I hope he wins another Grand Slam before he retires.  Tiger, it is great to see you tee it up again and now the television world can breath a sigh of relief
