I am definitely not writing here as an expert. I am saying what I am seeing and trusting the primary sources for my opinion; my right eye and my left eye. There are a couple of evenings that I watch TV on the major networks. The rest of the time it is something on HBO, Showtime, et al. What I am seeing is the drugging of America.
The breaks for advertising on the major networks are painful and dominated by the drug companies. The amazing thing is that I can’t always tell what the drug really does or what effect it has. I guess that doesn’t really matter since the warnings about the use of the seem more frightening than the ailment itself. I started to say “it cures,” but clearly it doesn’t do that.
What I am getting from the ad is the following:
- There is no promise of anything just “maybe.”
- There is a possibility that taking this drug could be “fatal.”
- I am so busy trying to decipher the made-up medical term that I can’t hear the reason that I would want to buy it.
What is going on here? I get that people suffer from a variety of strange and wonderful ailments. So, let’s say I succumb to the sales pitch and I purchase a couple of these drugs out of hope. Of course, I have consulted my doctor and he has said, “sure.” Does anyone really know what the long-term result is from having two different agents working in your body at the same time?
In a normal two hour session in front of the TV I will see and hear 10-12 ads for different drugs. I have no ailments so, I pay no attention to the pitch. However, I always get these messages:
- Proceed at your own risk
- There is no promised result
- Women are especially in danger
- Stop watching this sham presentation
How about getting on a regimen of exercise, proper diet and consistent rest before making any decision about using a drug? There are no short-cuts to health.
